The
Acid Crystals, and these Casks were consigned to Dairen.
The steamer duly arrived at Singapore on the 31st May 1925
and while at that port was visited by an Officer from the
Revenue Office acting upon instructions from London.
Revenue Officer proceeded to examine the 25 Casks of
Carbolic Acid Crystals referred to above, and the result
was that two of the Casks were found to contain inside the
inner tins a quantity of Morphine. The whole 25 Casks
were therefore seized by the Government Authorities at
Singapore and an action set in motion against the Captain
for the importation of the Drug. After representations
the Singapore Government Authorities allowed the steamer
to be cleared and she proceeded on her voyage to China and
Japan, whilst the Government Authorities at Singapore
referred the whole matter to the Home Authorities in this
country for their decision. The Summons against the Captain was subsequently proceeded with at Singapore and a
final judgment was given against him on the 23rd February
last, when he was fined 100 Straits Dollars with costs
50 cents.
We attach for your fuller information a copy of
the judgment in question.
